Another Month of Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters
When we last checked in with Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, she was crowned Miss Universe 2017 and since then her life has changed dramatically.
Before jetting off to her new home in New York, Demi-Leigh was asked in an interview what she thinks of the current state of the Miss Universe pageant and she replied by saying, “I think pageants have changed so much over the years, especially Miss Universe. This is not just a beauty pageant anymore, this is a platform a young woman is given to make a meaningful difference in the lives of people in her community, in her country, especially in the world.” She then elaborated by saying “A platform like Miss Universe has not only launched the careers of so many women but it gives you a platform to stand for something, have an opinion and use that.”
She’s since moved to New York, where she’ll be based, and a whole new world has been opened up to her. Demi-Leigh went on a press tour which took her to all parts of the globe including the Philippines where she was joined by Miss Great Britain, Anna Burdzy and former Miss Universe winners, Pia Wurtzbach and Iris Mittenaere.
One of her most recent high-profile appearances was her attendance at the 2018 Golden Globes. She stood out amongst some of the world’s most popular personalities and was accompanied by the event’s fashion editor, Margaret Gardiner and even bumped into one of her heroes, Kelly Clarkson.
The Miss Universe winner also nabbed a picture with fellow model, Kendell Jenner but the highlight of the night was undoubtedly Oprah’s speech about sexual assault and harassment of women when accepting her prestigious Cecil B. DeMille award.
When she found herself back in the US, Hollywood to be exact, she found time to praise fellow South Africana and Oscar-winning actress, Charlize Theron.
