Destination: Belize
Belize may be one of the smallest counties in the Americas, but what it lacks in size it more than makes up for with incredible attractions and almost endless diversity. Set on the beautiful eastern coast of Central America, the inviting waters of the Caribbean Sea lie to the right and dense, tropical jungle to the left.
Just off the coast lies the mesmerising Belize Barrier Reef, the second longest reef in the world and home to over 100 different types of coral. These waters are also home to innumerable islands (called cayes), and are teeming with a rich diversity of marine life. And, of course, there are the breath-taking beaches, which have welcomed some of the world’s most beautiful models and talented photographers.
Belize’s jungles play host to countless species of fauna and flora, and are home to close to 600 species of birds. The jungles are all part of a vast network of parks and sanctuaries which ensure their survival and prosperity. The jungles are also where you’ll find impressive, centuries old Mayan ruins offering a glimpse of a civilization has all but disappeared.
Belize is the only English-speaking Central American country, making it an ideal destination for international visitors. Its people are among the most welcoming to be found anywhere, and travellers will instantly feel at home on the tropical shores.
From archaeology, birding, canoeing, and caving, to horseback riding, kayaking, sailing, snorkelling, and scuba diving, you can do it all and more in Belize!
