Some Of Our Favourite Southern Summer Destinations
As winter begins to grip the northern hemisphere, summer is slowly starting to show its lovely face in the south. That of course means that some of the world’s best beaches and most exotic locations are again welcoming travellers, and we can’t to go explore. In that spirit, we’ve rounded up some of our favourite southern hemisphere destinations!
Islands
The southern hemisphere is home the bulk of the Indian Ocean, which in turn is home to some of the world’s most beautiful island nations. Among them are the Maldives and Seychelles, Mauritius and Reunion, and the Comoros.
When it comes to luxury and indulgence, the Maldives and Seychelles can’t be beat. They are the islands that most people think of when paradise is mentioned: crystal clear waters, endless stretches of pristine white beaches, and opulent five-star resorts.
If you’re looking for something a little more adventurous, Mauritius and Reunion are perfect. Just east of Madagascar, the neighbouring islands have superb natural offerings and boast excellent outdoor activities and facilities.
On the other side of Madagascar, just off the coast of southern Africa, lies the Comoros. It’s the ideal place to drop off of the map for a little while, and get away from the hustle and bustle of contemporary life.
And then there’s Indonesia. Exotic and exciting, with some of the world’s some sought after surf and a wonderful bohemian culture. It’s the perfect place to indulge your beach bum fantasies!
Africa
Although Africa is often associated with safaris and wildlife, it also has plenty of incredible beach destinations.
Up on the east coast, Kenya, Tanzania, and Zanzibar boast some amazing beaches and equally impressive marine life. They all offer a wide variety of accommodation options and, if the inclination strikes you, you can head inland to indulge in some game watching.
Further south, Mozambique and South Africa have some exquisite beach getaways. The former’s Pemba and Ponto do Ouro, among many others, are great for getaways away from the crowds. You’ll most likely need a 4×4 to reach them, but it’ll be worth the extra effort. Almost the whole of South Africa’s coastline is covered is immaculate beaches. Cape Town is arguably its most renowned destination, and it’s a great place to start your journey.
South America
Between Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru, and Ecuador, there’s every type of beach: secluded, touristy, pristine, rugged, tiny, huge, and more. From Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro, to East Island and the Galapagos Islands, and countless others, you could spend a lifetime exploring the continent’s beaches.
New Zealand and Australia
Last but certainly not least, we have New Zealand and Australia. The latter is the birthplace of some of the most famous surf brands in the world, and regularly hosts international surf competitions. New Zealand has mesmerising beaches aplenty, as well as breath-taking snorkelling and diving destinations.
So, where are you headed for the southern summer?
