Meet the Rookie: Juliet Godwin
Blonde hair, blue eyes, and a stunning beach body…it would seem Juliet Godwin was born to be a swimwear model, yet she only came into it in the last year! Since being scouted while playing bingo in a restaurant in the quaint suburb of Vredehoek, Cape Town, the Zimbabwe-born 22-year old (who also spent a good chunk of her youth in Australia) has had a whirlwind ride, including being selected as a Rookie of the Year finalist and winning the SA Lingerie Cover Shoot Competition. We recently caught up with the rising star.
What’s one thing your five-year old self would be proud of?
Finally being able to keep up with my 6 foot 4 inch Dad! When we went on family walk back in the day, my short little legs really had to move fast to keep up with him.
What’s something about you now that would surprise your five-year old self?
I was still in Zimbabwe when I was five, so I would be very surprised to see that I would spend time living in both Australia and South Africa.
What’s something about you that’s never changed?
My energy, my love for life and my desire to be a positive influence in other people’s lives.
What do you aspire to?
I hope to one day be a successful model and well established professional in the film industry. But most of all I would love to be in a position where I can positively impact the next generation coming through.
Who was your hero growing up?
My Dad. “Lalalee” was his nickname for me, and his huge personality and zest for life always inspired me and put a smile on my face. He was always there as my protector; which comes in handy when you have two brothers ganging up on you!
What advice would you give your younger self?
All through life there will be rough patches, but don’t let them hold you back because you’re going to get where you need to be anyway. Enjoy the journey and remember: this too shall pass.
