Meet the Rookie: Demi-Leigh Nel Peters
Growing up in South Africa’s scenic Garden Route, Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters has an inherent love of nature and enjoys spending time outdoors hiking, trail-running, or just soaking up the natural beauty. The former Miss Varsity Cup fondly remembers spending October holidays in Umhlanga and “eating Dinki Doughnuts for days”, but is currently focused on becoming an influential businesswoman. We found a gap in her crazy schedule to shoot her some questions.
What was your first job before you started modelling?
I managed an arts and crafts shop during school holidays.
What’s something your five-year old self would be proud of?
That I have grown up to be strong independent woman, just like my mom. I was the deputy junior major of George back in High School.
What’s one thing about you that’s never changed?
I have always had a crazy sweet tooth! The Dinkie Donuts kind of gave that one away.
What were your dreams as a child?
I wanted to become president and adopt all the animals at the SPCA.
Who was your childhood hero?
Charlize Theron
What advice would you give your younger self?
Don’t ever take life too seriously. Stay true to yourself. Hard work pays off and don’t ever take things personally.
